Origin Story

Dash and Hound Designs was created when Margo decided to pursue a creative outlet that combined her love of painting, illustration, and pattern design with her desire to bring playful, personality-filled artwork into people’s lives.

While thinking about the direction for her illustration business, she reflected on her first experience with entrepreneurship back in high school. Margo and her friend Sammi, now Dash and Hound’s marketing manager, competed in Future Business Leaders of America by creating a wrapping paper company they called Woof Wrap. The paper featured Margo’s illustrated dog breeds paired with Sammi’s dog-themed poems in whimsical black-and-white patterns.

More than a decade later, Margo still felt strongly about creating products for dog and cat lovers and chose to build Dash and Hound around that. Every design begins as a hand-drawn illustration, watercolor, or digital artwork created on her iPad before being sent to a trusted printing partner to print on the product.

In Margo’s home studio, every custom pet portrait and product illustration is carefully created with the goal of capturing the personalities and little details that make our furry friends so loved.

For custom portraits and art prints, each piece is professionally printed in the USA as a museum-quality giclée print on archival paper. Specialized wide-format printers and pigment-based inks help protect the artwork from fading, smudging, sunlight, and humidity, while acid-free archival paper keeps each print vibrant for years to come.

Alongside art prints, Margo is passionate about celebrating a wide variety of dog breeds and cat personalities through illustrated patterns and collections. From energetic pups to sleepy senior cats, each design is created with pet lovers in mind and thoughtfully paired with accessories that are made to order and shipped directly to your home, helping reduce overproduction and waste while creating pieces dog and cat lovers can enjoy every day.
